In the classics
《渊海子平》 associates 正官 with noble qi (贵气); 《三命通会》 wants it timely, singular and protected — fearing body-weakness, mixed Killings (官杀混杂) and Hurting Officer. In the month command it is the first structure 《子平真诠》 discusses.
In a chart
Direct Officer is legitimate order: institutions, credentials, formal advancement, law, the respect of doing things properly. It is discipline the chart consents to — control by the opposite polarity, softened into propriety. A strong Day Master wears it as office and reputation; a weak one experiences the same star as pressure, compliance anxiety and a career of serving standards it cannot spend. Classical spouse-reading makes it the husband/authority marker in female charts — documented tradition, applied with judgment today. It pairs beautifully with Resource (官印相生): authority that also nourishes.
Worked example

Where beginners misread it
Conflating it with Seven Killings as generic "career stars." The two are opposite management styles — regulation versus force — and the classics never mix them casually (混杂 is a named defect).
