Stage 2 · Term 17 of 34
Indirect Wealth 偏财
Piān Cái
The element your Day Master controls, same polarity. Themes: windfalls, ventures, investment, charisma — opportunistic rather than salaried wealth.
In the classics
《三命通会》 calls it "the wealth of the many": it does not fear exposure, siblings may share in it, and hour-pillar Indirect Wealth with a strong body is classically most auspicious.
In a chart
Indirect Wealth is circulation, not stewardship: trade, ventures, side income, opportunities surfaced through wide networks and quick judgment. It arrives in flows rather than instalments — and flows out the same way in a chart whose Day Master cannot hold it (peer stars siphoning shared wealth is the textbook leak). Charisma and social breadth attach to this star; in traditional male-chart reading it also marks father and, in old doctrine, secondary relationships. Career domains: commerce, investment, sales, deal-making.
Worked example
甲 wood meeting 戊 earth — controlled element, same polarity — meets Indirect Wealth: the open mountain rather than the fenced field; abundant, unowned, rewarding whoever moves first.
Where beginners misread it
Reading it as gambling luck. It is opportunity-capacity — nothing in the star exempts its holder from the strength requirement that decides whether gains stick.
Spotting it is Stage-2 work; weighing it against everything else in a real chart is what a teacher trains you to do — that layer lives at Yixin Academy.
