About

偏印 (Piānyìn, "Indirect Resource") is one of the Ten Gods (十神) of BaZi — the role a stem plays relative to the Day Master: produces the day master, same polarity. Direct/Indirect counterpart: 正印.‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌

偏印 ("the offset seal") is formed when a stem produces the Day Master with the same polarity — nourishment through an unconventional channel. It is the god of the self-taught: intuition, specialised or unusual study, insight arrived at alone. In one specific configuration — suppressing the easeful 食神 — classical texts give it a darker name: 梟神, the owl.‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌

In a chart, this means…

In a chart, 偏印 is traditionally read as unconventional depth: original methods, comfort in solitude, knowledge few others share. Its classical caution is isolation — the door closed too long. Which face shows depends on the chart as a whole.‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌
